    Kochi to Munnar

Upon arrival in Kochi, be transferred to Munnar.  Munnar is a beautiful town in the hills of Kerala, best known for its sprawling tea estates. The tea produced here has a delicate flavour of cardamom, which is used to brew the famous Indian ‘Chai’! Munnar also offers a splendid view of pristine valleys and mountains, exotic species of flora and fauna, and the aroma of cool, spice-scented air.

Driving through this part of Kerala is quite an experience in itself. Once you arrive in Munnar, check-in to the hotel and spend the day at leisure. Alternatively, you can venture out on a short cycling trip or a nature walk.

    Munnar

Today, you can explore Munnar from the selection of available activities (Optional-Cost not included). We recommend the Sunrise walk, a guided 3-hour trail taking you to the countryside. This walk to the uncommercial viewpoint named Elimala gives you an opportunity to observe local life, sun-kissed lands, and rolling mountains. As you walk back, see the countryside come alive as the sun peeks out. The Sunrise Walk covers a total of 7 kilometres, to and fro.

For the more adventurous trekker, the Ridge Trek is perfect. Enjoy a cup of piping hot coffee and be driven towards the mountain base for the trek. This trek will manoeuvre gently through the Western Ghats through the Shola forest patch, but never away from the iconic mountains.

Alternatively, if you find ethnic Kerala cuisine intriguing, you can certainly opt for a session or two. You can pair this up with a village visit, where you can experience the authentic rural life.

    Kumarakom

Post breakfast, check-out of the hotel and proceed to Kumarakom. Kumarakom is a cluster of little islands on the Vembanad Lake and a picturesque, clean village like most places in Kerala. Upon arrival in Kumarakom, spend the day at leisure.

Today, you can opt for a relaxing Ayurvedic massage or try your hand at learning Kalaripayattu. It is said that Buddhist monks took this idea to China which later developed into "Kungfu". Watch a performance and learn a few moves on selected days of the week. You can also explore Coconut Lagoon’s unique architectural details which are over a century old and can be uncovered on a property exploration walk with our Naturalist. We recommend the sunset cruise on the beautiful Lake Vembanad in a beautifully restored Kettuvallam.

    Houseboat Experience

After breakfast, embark on a journey of a lifetime. Aboard the Houseboat, or locally known as Kettuvallam, for a cruise through Vembanad Lake. Enjoy the evening, making occasional stops at low-lying rice fields, churches, temples, schools, or stop to buy some fresh tender coconut.

What is truly magical about a houseboat is the breathtaking view of the untouched and otherwise inaccessible rural Kerala that it offers. The houseboats have all the comforts of a good hotel including furnished bedrooms, modern toilets, cosy living rooms and a kitchen. Enjoying a cruise in these backwaters is not to be missed, as it leaves you feeling fully rejuvenated.
